From Plants to Potions: My Journey as a Green Witch
Hi friends, it’s Carol. This week, I wanted to share something a little different—something personal. Usually, our weekly blog posts focus on herbal knowledge and product spotlights, but today, I want to share a piece of my own journey. How I found my path as a green witch, how plants became more than just a passion for me, and how nature quite literally saved my life. I hope this glimpse into my story resonates with you in some way.
From Plants to Potions: My Journey as a Green Witch

I’ve always felt a deep connection to nature, but I don’t think I fully realized just how much it was a part of me until I almost lost it.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to plants—the way they grow, the way they change, the quiet magic they hold. My home was always filled with greenery, and my garden was my sanctuary. It wasn’t just about having plants; it was about caring for them, understanding them, and watching them thrive.
But for a long time, I wasn’t caring for myself the same way.
I was raised in a deeply Christian home, and while I still hold many of the values I was taught, I had a crisis of faith that left me feeling lost. I started questioning everything I had believed in, trying to understand who I really was outside of the expectations placed on me. It was during that search that I discovered witchcraft—or, maybe, that it discovered me.
The more I explored, the more I realized that the old ways had been calling me all along. My Celtic and German heritage connected me to a long history of pagan traditions, herbal healing, and reverence for the natural world. It was in my blood. I just hadn’t known it yet.
But even with that realization, I spent years denying myself. My truth. My needs. My body’s cries for rest, for care, for balance. And eventually, it nearly killed me.
When I got sick—so sick that I could no longer care for my garden, repot my plants, or even sit outside in the sun—I finally understood what had been missing. I had abandoned myself. And my body had finally forced me to stop running.
In my recovery, I found solace in books. One, in particular, spoke to me on a level I didn’t expect—The Green Witch by Arin Murphy-Hiscock. It put into words what I had always felt but never named. A green witch is someone deeply connected to the earth, someone who works with plants and natural energies, someone who finds magic in the living world around them.
That was me. That had always been me.
And so, while I still couldn’t physically return to my garden, I started planning my first medicinal garden. I studied herbs—not just their healing properties, but the ways they could nurture the mind and spirit, too. I mapped out the plants I would grow, imagining the garden I would create when I was strong enough.
That garden became the foundation of something even bigger—Green Magick Apothecary.
Witchcraft didn’t just teach me about plants. It taught me to care for myself. To listen to the rhythms of nature, to honor what my body and soul needed, and to heal—inside and out.
Now, every balm, every oil, every potion I create carries that same intention: to honor nature, to nurture, to heal.
Being a green witch isn’t just about growing herbs or making plant-based products. It’s about living in harmony with nature, listening to its wisdom, and weaving its magic into everyday life.
And that’s what I strive to bring to you through Green Magick Apothecary.
Whether you’re using a balm infused with herbs I carefully steeped, or a beard oil blended with botanicals chosen for their nourishing properties, you’re experiencing a little piece of that journey—a journey that started with a girl who loved plants, lost her way for a while, and found herself again through the magic of nature.
